Geographic Mapping Installation Detail
London is a big city and at any one time there's a lot of transport going on. The AV installation for the London Transport Museum (run by Transport For London) is a massive display of geographical information: engineering works, canal renovations, train lines and bus routes. The display is controlled by two touch screen interfaces that allow two users to use the installation at the same time. The touch screen interfaces where built using Flex 2 and use an XML socket to connect to a custom multi-user server. The display is projected on to a 27 foot wall using two high quality projectors.
I built the touch screen interfaces and the geographic display (Flex 2). The custom multi-user server written in Java by the incredibly smart, Alex Fills. Here's a short video of one of the work-in-progress reviews with designer, Richard Jones and UX consultant Richard Allalouf.
The Installation
UPDATE 16.05.09 - Just before leaving for Texas, I took the kids to the museum and snapped a few pics of the installation in action. The installation went live when the museum relaunched in 2006. It's nice to see it still running three years on.
