Iconography (Detail)

One of the big new media coups of 1999 was Microsoft asking Nykris to design the UI for the next version of Internet Explorer for Mac. Apple's iMacs were selling like hot cakes and big M wanted in. So Microsoft came to hip Hoxton for a bit of Nykris magic.

Under Nikki Barton's excellent art direction, I designed the collapsable toolbar and developed a working UI prototype (Lingo / Director 7) which was emailed straight to Bill himself! I also worked with Jason Fawcett and Arron Bleasdale on the iconography.

At the time, the browser was hailed as one of the best available for the Mac platform and was one of the hottest files on download.com for several years. Nykris went on to design the UI for the Microsoft Office suite for Mac.

Here's the prototype I built for Bill Gates (PC Only, obviously). You'll need to download and unzip it. Tip: ctrl click to display a button's disabled state.
